The music video I have chosen to analyse that is similar to our music video is Alicia Keys “if I aint got you” released February 2004. The video begins with a piano solo piece lasting around twenty four seconds of the artist playing which is the same start as our music video then changing shots of her playing the piano to two people one being the artist the other presumably her boyfriend moving to a new house together. Throughout the video shots change back to Alicia Keys playing the piano and then returning to the narrative of the story shots. The lyrics fit in well with the visuals as it is clear that she only wants that one person and doesn’t need anything at all. She then gets upset after she finds out her boyfriend has been arrested and messes their new home up by throwing and tearing papers up which is another thing in common with our music video where as our character is sitting on the bed looking at photos and pushes them off the bed but both characters have similar anger and upset.
I think the target audience of Alicia keys is a target audience who is young or middle – aged as the genre of her music is R & B, soul and pop which is aimed at more young people but also some middle - aged people who enjoy listening to soul music. I think linking the target audience to her album work is a key element. I also feel the covers have been designed to let the audience know what type of genre her music is and to make sure the covers are eye – catching and appealing to her target audience.

Below are four examples of her album work. All her front covers include herself posing some are of close up shots like the album “As I am” but the rest remain of medium shots. All her album except the diary of Alicia Keys include her name in bright bold font and colour to stand out from the background and appeal to the target audience and just underneath in smaller size and different font is the album name. I think all the shots on each cover relate to the name of the album for example the album ”the element of freedom” it appears to look like she is wearing wings which to me relates to the word freedom as if flying etc. Another album “As I am” is of a close - up shot of Alicia Keys face which relates to who and what she is.

Good. Who would you suggest your artist is targeting in terms of audience?
ReplyDeleteI think Alicia Keys target audience is teenagers to young adults as the genre of music they listen to is usually R & B and pop music which is the style and genre of Alicia Keys music.
ReplyDeleteAnother music video I have chosen to analyse that is of a similar genre to our music video is Britney Spears “everytime” released May 2004. The video begins with the sound of a helicopter flying over Las Vegas so the audience knows the location straight away which then uses the effect cross dissolve to a shot of a sign with the graphics of Britney and her show. As her limo arrives, the camera pans so that the audience feel as if they are they watching the limo go by they feel included in the video not just watching the video. As the paprazzi photograph her there is a lot of hustle and bustle for Britney and her boyfriend to go into the building. Slow motion shots have been used between the paparazzi and Britney’s boyfriend in close up shots showing what they are saying to one another so that the audience can see and understand their emotions. When Britney and her boyfriend are in the apartment alone, shots alternate between the two of them as he is in the living room and she is in the bathroom to show one another’s anger from the situation. As she goes under the water trying to take her own life it image fades out to white to fade back into a shot where she is running, through this shot it is made clear to the audience the narrative of the song and for them to understand the relationship between the lyrics and visuals which help to understand the narrative. A shot of her on a hospital bed where staff are trying to resuscitate her which then cuts back to the room where she if found in the bath and is then rushed to hospital. As she walks through the hospital from her being saved to the next bed across where a baby has been born which is a shot zoomed in to a medium close up shot of the baby which is then cross dissolved to Britney coming out from beneath the water in the bath and fades out with the music finishing. Throughout the song the piano is playing in the background giving it a constant beat in the background with the lyrics and visuals.
ReplyDeleteI think the target audience of Britney Spears is a target audience who is young or middle – aged as the genre of her music is soft rock and pop which is aimed at more young people but also some middle - aged people who enjoy listening to that genre of music.
