Digipaks

Digipaks are a type of compact disc packaging. Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD attached to the inside. Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums. They flip open like a book, or it can have several parts so one side opens the opposite way to the other side with the CD in the centre.

Digipaks were created by MeadWestvaco, as it digipaks become more popular and was begun to be used by many manufacturers the digipak then was used to be described as all soft CD packaging.

The image below is example of digipaks, which includes mostly graphics on each side and an insert for the CD to be placed into. A digipak is usually for a single rather than an album. The name of the single and artist is on the front cover and on the inside is usually an inner sleeve which contains a booklet on the artist and information about them.

The image below is an illustration/structure of a digipak and from what I have mentioned above on the other examples of digipaks becomes clear what goes on which side.
