Graveyard scene where the female character sits next to a grave. This is used to show the audience quite easily that the reason the lead character is crying is that her parent is dead.
Bedroom scene where the female is looking through photographs of her mother and herself showing that she is thinking of her memories that she has. Thus this allows the video to flow as it tells the audience that the next scenes within the clip are memories.
The kitchen scene where a memory is shown between the mother and the daughter thus showing how ill she was yet how happy they were.
The living room scene where another memory is shown yet this time the mother is shown to be even more ill but putting on a brave face for the daughter. It is also used to have the main character and her mother singing along with the lyrics.
The park scene where the female drops the letter from the book and lets it fall to the floor allowing the viewers to see the letter burn. This shows who died as the letter is signed by the mother thus letting the audience know exactly what happened along with the graveyard scene.
See if you can make any references to existing music videos which contain some similar settings. Are they a similar genre?
ReplyDeleteSome similar settings I have found in Alicia Keys music video "If I aint got you". In the music video is a scene in the park where Alicia Keys is walking through the park singing, but reflecting and thinking of her current situation which is similar to our character sitting in the park reading the letter but she too is reflecting on the past. Another scene that is similar is in the kitchen but in Alicia Keys video she is argueing about something with her boyfriend where as in our video it is showing a memory of the past but the both our character and the Alicia Keys will both reflect on this moment. The next scene is in the bedroom and when Alicia Keys sings the lyrics they have meaning to what is said that go in with the visuals; she is looking at her boyfriend asleep on the bed and in our music video our character is on the bed looking at photos, the point that is in common here is both are thinking of that someone that is special to them. Both are of similar genre; both are narrative telling a story about that someone that means most to them.
ReplyDeleteThe convention of a music video with the genre of narrative is the visuals help tell the story of the lyrics and help the audience understand what is going on and the meaning behind the song.
